We began as the Watkinsville Church of Christ back in 2002. During our first several years of existence, we met in a variety of locations around the county including members homes, the Oconee County Civic Center, Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, Column Ferry Elementary School, and our last location was on Barnett Shoals Road. We also did not have a regular full time minister initially. Various men of our congregation would present lessons and sermons as well as visiting ministers from the Atlanta area. We have been blessed in so many ways, and one of those ways was by Maurice Lusk agreeing to become our full time Minister. During 2004 and 2005 we located our property and constructed our current home on Rays Church Road in Bishop, GA. It was with this move that it was decided that since we more more centrally located in the county, we should change our name from the Watkinsville Church of Christ, to Central Oconee Church of Christ. In August 2005, we celebrated the opening of our brand new facility, which was made possible with the help of our members who contributed countless hours and their talents to help in the construction of the building. You can see some photos of the construction of the building by clicking HERE While our name and location may have changed, our core values and beliefs have remained unchanged. We are simply a local group of Christians who meet together to worship the God of the Bible and honor His Son, Jesus Christ (Acts 20:7). We have no creed other than the Bible and strive to give scriptural authority for all we believe, teach, and do.
